¿Qué importancia existe en convertirnos como una familia para otros creyentes? Hechos 2:42 podría considerarse como una declaración básica de la actividad de la iglesia por excelencia: "Y perseveraban en la doctrina de los apóstoles, en la comunión unos con otros, en el partimiento del pan y en las oraciones". La Biblia considera muy importante la unidad en la familia de la iglesia por las siguientes razones:

Estudiamos juntos la Palabra de Dios — Una iglesia como una familia proporciona una enseñanza bíblica coherente. A menudo, esto sucede a través de grupos pequeños, estudios bíblicos, enseñanza del pastor, lecciones de la escuela dominical, y así sucesivamente. La iglesia como familia está llamada a que juntamente crezca espiritualmente, estimulándose los unos a los otros. Segunda Timoteo 3:16 dice, "Toda la Escritura es inspirada por Dios, y útil para enseñar, para redargüir, para corregir, para instruir en justicia."

Honramos a Dios juntos a través de la adoración — Hay un factor de unidad cuando los creyentes adoran juntos a Dios, ya sea a través de la música, la predicación o el servicio. El Salmo 34:3 enfatiza sobre nuestro llamado a una adoración conjunta: "Engrandeced a Jehová conmigo, Y exaltemos a una su nombre".

Encontramos rendición de cuentas — La iglesia ofrece un marco práctico para la rendición de cuentas. Tan pronto como las relaciones crecen y se forman amistades, hay alguien que lo anima y lo reprende cuando sea necesario, y se regocija con usted. Proverbios 27:17 dice, "Hierro con hierro se aguza; Y así el hombre aguza el rostro de su amigo". La rendición de cuentas es de vital importancia en nuestra lucha para vencer el pecado, y la familia de la iglesia es un buen lugar para encontrar a alguien con quien orar, hablar y en quien confiar.

Encontrar apoyo en las pruebas — Cuando vienen las pruebas, una red de apoyo es fundamental. Cuando usted esté en necesidad, deseará que sus hermanos y hermanas en Cristo lo sostengan en oración y lo ayuden con necesidades prácticas tales como la comida, el aseo y el cuidado de los niños. Gálatas 6:2 nos anima a que "sobrellevemos los unos las cargas de los otros, y cumplir así la ley de Cristo".

Logramos oportunidades para servir — No solamente recibimos apoyo en la iglesia, sino que además lo damos. Nuestro llamado en la iglesia es aportar y no solamente recibir. Cuando estamos en estrecha comunión con otros creyentes, sabemos cuándo necesitan apoyo y oración. Podemos intervenir y ayudar en forma práctica. Efesios 6:7 dice, "Sirviendo de buena voluntad, como al Señor y no a los hombres".

Hacemos discípulos — Llega un momento en que tenemos que aprender a alimentar y no simplemente a que nos alimenten (Hebreos 5:12). Podemos evangelizar, enseñar, estimular y "discipular" a nuestra familia en la iglesia. "Toda potestad me es dada en el cielo y en la tierra. Por tanto, id, y haced discípulos a todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo; enseñándoles que guarden todas las cosas que os he mandado; y he aquí yo estoy con vosotros todos los días, hasta el fin del mundo. Amén" (Mateo 28:18-20).

En una época en que la cultura es cada vez más secular, es beneficioso estar en una familia de creyentes con la misma mentalidad. Estos hermanos y hermanas pueden animarlo en su camino de fe, además de dar respuesta a sus preguntas sobre temas espirituales, y ser de apoyo en los momentos de dificultad. La familia de la iglesia también puede darle la oportunidad para servir y para discipular a otros. "no dejando de congregarnos, como algunos tienen por costumbre, sino exhortándonos; y tanto más, cuanto veis que aquel día se acerca" (Hebreos 10:25).
 

 

What value is there to becoming like family to other believers? Acts 2:42 could be considered a basic statement of quintessential church activity: “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” The Bible places importance on the church family unit because of these reasons:

We study God’s Word together — A church family provides consistent Bible teaching. This often comes through small groups, Bible studies, teaching from the pastor, Sunday school lessons, and so on. The church family is called to grow spiritually together, spurring one another on. Second Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”

We honor God together through worship — There is a unifying factor when believers worship God together, whether it’s through music or preaching or serving. Psalm 34:3 emphasizes a call to corporate worship: “Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together.”

We find accountability — The church provides a practical framework for accountability. Once relationships grow and friendships form, there is someone to encourage you, rebuke you when necessary, and rejoice with you. Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpens iron; so man sharpens his friend’s countenance.” Accountability is crucially important in the battle to overcome sin, and the church family is a great place to find someone to pray with, talk to, and confide in.

We find support in trial — When trials come, a support system is crucial. When in need, you will want your brothers and sisters in Christ to uphold you in prayer and assist with practical needs like meals, cleaning, and childcare. Galatians 6:2 encourages us to “carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

We gain opportunities for service — We not only receive support in the church; we give it as well. Your calling in the church is to contribute, not just to receive. When we are in close fellowship with other believers, we know when they need support and prayer. We can step in and help in practical ways. Galatians 6:10 says, “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

We make disciples — There comes a time when we need to learn to feed, not just be fed (Hebrews 5:12). We can evangelize, teach, encourage, and “disciple” our church family. “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:18–20).

In an age when the culture is increasingly secular, it is beneficial to be in a family of like-minded believers. These brothers and sisters can encourage you in your faith journey, respond to your questions about spiritual issues, and be a support in times of hardship. The church family can also give you opportunity to serve and disciple others. “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25).
